High-resolution ultrasound
What is a sonography?
A sonography is a high-resolution ultrasound. With this non-invasive, radiation-free procedure, organic tissue can be visualised. It is necessary for the morphological assessment of the thyroid gland and of possible inflammatory changes as well as for the assessment of thyroid nodules. The surrounding soft tissues of the neck, such as lymph nodes, parathyroid glands, salivary glands and vessels are usually also checked.
How does the examination work?
During a sonography, which only takes a few minutes, an ultrasound probe is passed over the thyroid gland from the outside with light pressure. You will be informed immediately about the results of the ultrasound.
Are the costs reimbursed?
Sonography is a statutory and private health insurance benefit.
